Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

The Nationalpark Hohe Tauern counts with 1.856 km2 area to the biggest Nationalparks in Europe and is one of the greatest high mountain landscapes all over the world. The offer of the Nationalpark is really huge.

Beside the high mountain landscape you will be impressed by the variety of flora, which presents the most beautiful alp flowers. Also the variety of animals is stunning. More than 10.000 animal species call the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern their home base. Furthermore, you will be impressed by all the glaciers, waterfalls and lakes.

The Nationalparkcentre Mittersill is, if you stay in our hotel Grüner Baum, the most interesting one. Mittersill is easy to reach in approximately 40 minutes by car from Zell am See.

The Nationalparkworld is an ideal access for all visitors. In 8 worlds – from 3D-cinema to the formation of the alps to the point of the world of glacier – visitors will learn all about the alps, their residents and the living area. Kaprun high mountain reservoirs

The Kaprun high mountain reservoirs are situated in the middle of the “Hohen Tauern” and are the birthplace of VERBUND. It’s one of the most impressive structure work of the postwar period in Pinzgau. The Kaprun high mountain reservoirs consist of 2 barrier lakes, Waterfall– und Mooserboden, at a height of 2.040 m sea level. It’s the history of the barrier lakes, the variety of the Nationalpark and the overwhelming technical effort, which gets carried out in the middle of the alps, that makes the high mountain reservoirs so amazing.

From our hotel Grüner Baum in Zell am See, Kaprun is reachable in approximately 10 minutes. Arrived in Kaprun you can go on by transfer-busses and the Lärchwand-Schrägaufzug, that gets you easily up in 2.040 height to the barrier lake Mooserboden. There you can make a break at the Fürthermoar Alm if you are hungry or thirsty. Starting there you can hike along the barrier lakes, which you should definitely not miss. Especially for families there are great adventure-gaming-stations at “Strom-Trail”, which convey the topic hydrodynamic power very kittenish.
