    Project Description

The best Hiking, Trails & Mountain Walks in the Zell am See-Kaprun Region

Whether you are a keen experienced mountain-climber or here with your family and children, there is an ideal route just waiting for you on the Schmittenhöhe, the Hausberg Hundstein or the Kitzsteinhorn mountains. The alpine world of the Schmittenhöhe, the Maiskogel or Kitzsteinhorn mountains can be easily accessed by cable-car. This is particularly appealing to families of all ages who just want to get started with their mountain hike as quickly as possible. The Maiskogel mountain walk is a big favourite with young families as is the adventure-trail on the Schmittenhöhe mountain known as the „Schmidolins Feuertaufe“, which follows the tracks of Fridolin the dragon. Of course it goes without saying that your hosts at the Hotel Grüner Baum would be only too happy to offer advice and tips on the best hiking trails to explore during your holiday here.

The Klammsee loop trail/ Route No. 17

The Klamsee loop trail is an ideal countryside hike for all the family. The route begins at the Sigmund-Thun Klam, next to the power station and stretches for about 3 kms and follows along mostly lakeshore before returning to the start point. Allow approximately one hour to complete the walk.

    Adventure trail Höhenpromenade

Games, info-boards, telescopes and playground all wait to be discovered by children both big and small. The Höhenpromenade trail extends about 3km between the Schmittenhohe mountain and the Sonnkogel and you should allow 1 hour and 20 minutes to enjoy it. Getting to and from the top of the Schmittenhohe with the cable car is also really convenient for families.

One needs to have the right gear and fitness for this high altitude trek! This 4 hour hike starts from the Alpincenter, next to the “Gletschermühle” restaurant which is accessible by cable car. The route takes an initial southerly direction to the Gletschersee (Glacier lake) whereupon the direction changes eastwards towards Kammerscharte. From here the trail goes along the eastern side of the Kitzsteinhorn mountain descending to Fürthermoaralm. Proceeding then by bus to the valley or alternatively to Mooseboden where hikers can soak up the wonderful view of the Stausee reservoir.
